Universal America Inc. Overview

Universal America, located in Greeneville, Tennessee, USA is UCM’s principal site for the high volume manufacture of monoclinic and stabilised zirconia. Applications include refractories, friction compounds, investment casting etc.

UAI is the largest plant of its kind in the world, with a capacity in excess of 10,000 tpa. The plant has two tilting furnaces and one Higgins (block) furnace for fusion, together with appropriate sizing facilities.

UAI takes high-quality zircon sand and converts it to either monoclinic (i.e. non-stabilised) zirconia, or by using a two-stage process, to calcia-stabilised zirconia.

UAI’s 95ZC calcia-stabilised grade is the most commonly used product of its kind in the refractories industry world-wide, whilst Z99 monoclinic zirconia is the material of choice for manufacturers of friction compounds as well as many refractories applications.

UAI zirconia is sold to over 100 customers in more than 20 countries.

Some of the more commonly specified grain sizes are described in this website but many others can be produced to meet specific client needs.

Due to its high-quality raw material source, UAI zirconia conforms to all relevant legislation regarding radioactivity.

UAI also produces Electrosil fume silica as a by-product from the fusion of zircon sand to monoclinic zirconia. This high-quality fume finds application in refractory and civil concretes as well as a range of other applications

UAI is registered to ISO 9001:2000
