Unitec Ceramics Overview
Unitec Ceramics, located in Stafford in the North West of England, was founded in 1986 to meet the growing demand for fine-sized, technically sophisticated qualities of zirconia for the emerging advanced ceramics market. The company grew out of the long experience of its former parent, Universal Abrasives Limited, in the manufacture of electro-fused minerals for abrasives and refractories.
Unitec produces a range of stabilised zirconia powders for use in the manufacture of structural and functional advanced ceramics. Unitec powders are manufactured by an advanced electro-fusion process followed by precision comminution and sizing. Unitec powders are produced in a range of chemistries from monoclinic to powders stabilised to varying degrees with e.g. magnesia, yttria, calcia, ceria or Scandia. Other oxides can be employed on a collaborative basis.
Standard powder sizes have d50 values of 1.8µ, 1.1µ, 0.7µ and 0.3µ.
As well as powders for engineering ceramics, Unitec also produces some of the less commonly-specified zirconia products e.g. magnesia-stabilised zirconia, yttria-stabilised zirconia, calcium zirconate, magnesium zirconate, etc for refractories and other applications.
Unitec is also the UCM Group’s principal location for the manufacture of small-scale quantities of special formulations, often in confidential collaboration with UCM’s client.
Unitec is registered to ISO 9001:2000 and is working towards TS16949 registration.
