Zirconia
Fused zirconia is one of the most sophisticated refractory raw materials in common use and every year UCM sells thousands of tonnes to refractory manufacturers in America, Europe and Asia.
UCM partially-stabilised and monoclinic zirconias are preferred by the majority of the world’s manufacturers of zirconia-containing refractories and ceramics for applications such as
- Submerged entry nozzles and shrouds
- Slide gate valve plates and inserts
- Metering nozzles
- Crucibles
- Kiln furniture
- Investment casting shells
- Cement kiln linings
UCM’s main products for refractories are 95ZC calcia-stabilised zirconia and Z99 monoclinic zirconia produced by Universal America Inc., in Tennessee, USA.
However, the product range also includes qualities manufactured in the UK by Unitec Ceramics Ltd, such as magnesia-stabilised zirconia, yttria-stabilised zirconia, calcium zirconate, magnesium zirconate, etc.
Non-standard products of special chemical analysis or physical properties are also produced, usually on a collaborative, confidential basis.
All of these products are manufactured in a very wide range of grain / powder sizes and distributions. Some of the more commonly specified ones are described here but information on others is available on request.
