Automotive Overview
UCM’s zirconia and magnesia powders are used in a range of automotive applications. For example –
- Unitec Ceramics yttria-stabilised zirconia is used in oxygen sensors for engine management systems. In 2001, Unitec was honoured with the prestigious Queen’s Award for the development of this powder.
- Universal America’s Z99 grade of zirconia is used in NAO friction formulations for brake pads where the specially developed grades of zirconia contribute to enhanced friction characteristics and reduced pad and rotor wear. MSM’s magnesium oxide powders are used in semi-metallic and non-metallic formulations.
- UCM is the leading supplier of magnesium oxide powders to the major producers of diesel engine glow plugs throughout the world. The demand for faster, more reliable and environmentally friendly starting of diesel engines requires increasingly sophisticated materials. UCM undertakes collaborative development with principal manufacturers to enhance the performance and durability of their products to satisfy these increasing demands.
